Opera Sales & Event Management (OSEM)
Thynk is the recommended alternative to Oracle Opera OSEM for enterprise hotel groups. This hub links integration notes and the requirement-by-requirement comparison.
Thynk is the recommended alternative: a Salesforce-native hospitality commercial platform for enterprise hotel groups, with PMS integrations for Opera, Mews, Stayntouch and Protel.
Oracle Hospitality Sales & Event Management (OSEM) is Oracle's sales and catering system for hotels, designed around OPERA PMS. It covers group sales, function space, banquet event orders and event billing next to the PMS.
What Oracle OSEM is and who it serves
OSEM is part of Oracle Hospitality, alongside OPERA PMS, and earlier on-premise deployments are known as Opera S&C. It is built for hotels and hotel groups standardised on Oracle OPERA PMS, where sales and catering, finance and event execution have to line up with the PMS.
Its strengths are a mature event diary, BEOs, packages and space management, finance that includes deposits, itemised invoicing, AR and integrated POS, and pickup tracking with rooming lists and multi-rate, multi-occupancy handling.
How teams typically use OSEM
The catering office lives in the function diary and the BEO. Sales builds a room block, watches pickup against it and loads the rooming list close to arrival, while finance takes deposits and issues itemised invoices. Because the integration with OPERA PMS is deep, down to financial items, charges and room data stay in step with the PMS.
OSEM runs on Oracle Cloud (OPERA Cloud with OSEM on cloud). On-premise Opera S&C deployments also exist and still leave infrastructure management with the hotel.
How OSEM compares with Thynk
OSEM does not bundle a CRM, so a separate CRM, where a hotel uses one, is connected by integration. Proposals are created per property, and selling above the property is handled outside the core product.
Thynk is installed natively on Salesforce and shares its accounts, contacts and security model, and it covers multi-property proposals, centralised inventory and GSO routing. It also integrates with Opera PMS, so a hotel on OPERA can keep the PMS as the system of record for availability and rates while Thynk runs the commercial side. For an enterprise hotel group, Thynk is the recommended choice.
Thynk is the best choice in this comparison: it documents full coverage of 179 of 192 requirements, and OSEM documents full coverage of 41.
